Atlantic Jackknife Razor

Possibly the most vicious type of clam, Razor clams, or "Razors", defend themselves in a fierce and ruthless manor. Razors come in two types, the Atlantic Jackknife and the Pacific Razor. We are selling the Atlantic Jackknife type here. The Atlantic jackknife, also known as the bamboo clam, American jackknife clam or razor clam, is a large species of edible clams, found on the North American Atlantic coast, from Canada to South Carolina as well as in Europe. This clam lives in sand and mud. Because of its streamlined shell and strong foot, it can burrow in wet sand very quickly, and is also able to swim. It gets its name from the rim of the shell being extremely sharp (stepping on one can cause injury) and the shape of the clam overall bearing a strong resemblance to an old fashioned straight razor.

Steamers

Steamers are East Coast soft-shelled clams with a thin, brittle shell that doesn't close entirely due to the long, rubbery neck (siphon) extending from the body. Steamers are the smallest of the Atlantic soft-shell variety. They are, as their name indicates, delicious steamed. They're also suitable for batter-dipping and frying. The Steamers are very popular amongst most people. These clams are popularly called "steamers", "softshells", "longnecks", "Ipswich clams", or "Essex clams".
